Diamond Skies Quilt Pattern
I was inspired to design the Diamond Skies quilt after Rashida Coleman-Hale of Ruby Star Society released her Stellar fabric collection. I was in love with her colors and designs (I have a bunch on hand still that I can't wait to sew up) and immediately pulled 9 Kona solids that I felt reflected her color palette.
I've been wanting to design a quilt for some time. I have a notebook filled with ideas of quilts that I hope to one day release, but none of them seemed right for this color pallete. I started sketching up some new ideas, scribbling in the little squares of my bullet journal.
Then the Diamond Skies Quilt was born. (And can be purchased HERE.)
The pattern comes in two sizes, crib and throw. The crib size finishes at 40" x 48" and the throw is 48" x 64".
I chose to design a larger sized baby/crib pattern because I always like the idea of a quilt that can grow with a child. It's small enough for tummy time as an infant, and perfect for wrapping themself up within it for snuggle time as a toddler. I made the throw size using Manchester Embroidered Cotton from Cottoneer Fabrics. For the backing and binding I used their Sarape Stripe in Poppy. This was a new fabric to me and I'd highly recommend it. The Sarape felt like working with a light weight blanket.

I chose to use Hobb's Tuscany 100% Wool batting due to its high loft, adding dimension and elevating the quilting. I changed my mind so many times on how I was going to quilt this one. Exhausted by decision I gave it to my dear friend Tami of TKs Quilts and when she sent me the SW Kokopelli E2E design from Wasatch Quilting I knew it was perfect! When I was in high school my family would go to this restaurant as a special treat that had this image all over the restaurant. The design brought back great family memories and tied the quilt together perfectly.

For the quilt which inspired the Diamond Skies pattern I knew I wanted to do something special. My sweet friend Kiley of Long-Armed Mama reached out to me offering to work with me on this beauty. I've never had a quilt custom quilted before, but I knew it was in good hands with Kiley. She did not disappoint. Her quilting truly highlights the quilt design and I couldn't be happier.
Fabrics used on the cover quilt are Robert Kaufman Kona Solids: Leather, Curry, Sunflower, Peach, Corsage, Geranium, Desert Green, Mediterranean, and Indigo. The background fabric is FreeSpirit Essential Solid Mist. For the binding and backing I used the fabric which inspired it all, Final Frontier in dark teal metallic from the Stellar fabric collection by Rashida Coleman-Hale of Ruby Star Society.
